About Classes
The classes are fun and creative, encouraging embodied movement and expression. The children are introduced to traditional yoga poses, breathing techniques, meditation, mantras, mudras, relaxation techniques and journalling. The classes are planned around the ancient wisdom and knowledge of Ayurveda, according to the seasons. I have a love of language and take pleasure in writing original and well-known stories. I enjoy creating classes around ancient tales, folklore and fables from around the worlds. The stories are created to share an understanding of relationships, wellbeing and living in the wider world, covering aspects of Personal, Social, Health and Economic (PSHE). This supports and develops an understanding of the other elements of yoga known as the yamas and niyamas. These two limbs/pathways are guidelines for how we act towards others and how we manage ourselves. I have an interest and respect for other cultures, traditions, festivals and celebrations. I understand the importance of celebrating and sharing different beliefs as it creates a sense of belonging, self and identity.
During the class the children are shown traditional yoga poses as well as being encouraged to move in a way that feels creative and nourishing for their body. I include mantras, mudras and sound to embed the feeling of rest, repose and improving mood. The classes are structured in an intelligent way to develop coordination, balance, strength, flexibility while considering the child’s individual needs often working with the child’s Early Health Care Plan (ECHP). Yoga is a tool for neurodivergent individuals as it helps to regulate the nervous system, reduce sensory overload and helps to connect with their body in a way that grounds and builds self-acceptance. The classes are inclusive to all children as it offers the tools to manage stress, anxiety and overwhelm that are on the increase due to the pressures of their busy lives. During the classes I create a safe space where the children can feel seen, heard and valued.
